A Link to the Art of Becky O'Neal
note: Artist's website will open in a new window.
My art and projects that I design have always been a way to express my creative ideas of how I see (or would like to see) the world around me. I usually prefer to paint subjects life size or larger but, this will depend upon subject matter to be portrayed and size of painting being designed.
I like to accentuate forms, texture, shapes and how negative space takes form in relation to the subject or focal point. I use color with freedom and like to plan out my color palette. Sometimes hues are used unexpectedly to portray the subject in a different or interesting design. Colored shapes will consist of strong shadow and light to give the subject depth in the painting. Some paintings show motion which brings life to objects or figures. I have always had a strong need to create and express my ideas through art.
Since childhood Becky has been interested in drawing, painting, creating new projects, photography, sewing/ designing clothes and garden design. The subjects of her artwork reflect an interest in nature and people. She was an Artist in Residence at River Oaks Square Arts Center from 1985-1991. During this time she participated in group shows, and her studio at River Oaks was open to the public for viewing of artwork in progress.
With River Oaks Arts Center planning renovations and rebuilding of the art studios she left to build her own studio at her new home. Following the birth of her third child she found the home studio more convenient for early morning and late night painting hours.
Becky has been selling original paintings and painting on commission since 1982 and has worked in landscape design since 1985. She is currently the head designer for a seasonal Christmas holiday store and display company. She has designed numerous logos, T-shirts, brochures and other publications as well as backdrops for a local ballet company.
Becky is married and enjoys working on projects with her three wonderful children, all talented young artists who have won various awards at school for their own art work.
